One of the Mark IIIs most attractive
features came standard: the classic
Continental deck lid left little
doubt about what's ahead of you on
the road.
Sure-Track electronic braking system
was a standard feature on all 1971
Mark IIIs. Almost considered a
requirement on cars today, it was
quite novel back then. The
computer-controlled system was
capable of actuating and releasing
the brakes at a rate of 4 cycles per
second.
The Continental Mark III was one of
the best-equipped cars on the road in
standard from. The padded instrument
panel featured genuine walnut veneer
trim. Automatic Temperature Control
was to left of steering column; the
Cartier electronic chronometer, a
Mark III exclusive, is mounted in
third pod from left. The Three-Spoke
Rim-Blow Steering Wheel, also
standard, allowed driver to sound
horns by squeezing inside rim.
Optional equipment shown includes
Automatic Speed Control, with on-off
switch mounted under panel to left of
steering wheel; and AM/FM Stereo
Radio, which featured four speakers
for unbelievable stereo
sound.
